LCpl Sanguino Achieves Academic Dreams
The Leadership Scholar Program (LSP) helps Marines apply to college and achieve their educational goals.
Lance Corporal (LCpl) Bruce Sanguino was born in New York City but moved to Mexico at a young age and lived there for a decade before returning to the United States at 17 to finish high school.
Despite aspiring to study mechanical engineering in college, financial constraints compelled him to work instead. Upon discovering the Marine Corps and its promising opportunities, Bruce Sanguino enlisted.
Joining as a machine gunner, his experiences in the Corps have profoundly shaped him, fostering personal growth and affording him the chance to instruct junior Marines.
LCpl Sanguino was recognized by his commanding officers as an outstanding Marine who served with the Headquarters Battalion of the 1st Marine Division, fulfilling the role of Chief Machine Gunner for Truck Company. Throughout his service, he consistently displayed exceptional professionalism, maturity, and a strong eagerness for learning.
Known for his selflessness and leadership, LCpl Sanguino generously shares his skills with his peers, demonstrating a superior work ethic and a deep understanding of tactical operations. In his own reflection, he expressed, "The Marines changed my life for the better, and now I have the opportunity to attend college.”
In the fall of 2022, LCpl Sanguino discovered the LSP and collaborated with the Camp Pendleton Voluntary Education Center staff to assemble his application for the San Diego State University (SDSU) President's Military Special Admission Program. His efforts paid off, and he was accepted into the mechanical engineering program at SDSU.
